Government that Works

Human Services

Reduce Pennsylvania's uninsured population by 50 percent by 2020.

Why is this goal important?

More Pennsylvanians should have access to primary and preventative care, and be able to see a doctor when they are sick and avoid costly trips to the emergency room. Better health outcomes are essential to a productive workforce. Also, state supported healthcare costs are lessened by preventative care.

What are we working on to reach this goal?

Since taking office, Governor Wolf has worked with the Department of Human Services to fully expand Medicaid. Now, over 500,000 new individuals have access to health care. The Pennsylvania Insurance Department has worked tirelessly to keep health insurance rates on the exchange affordable — Pennsylvania had the fifth-lowest cost among all states for the silver plan —  and children enrolled in CHIP.

The goals below will promote the health and well-being of all Pennsylvanians and ensure that vulnerable citizens have access to vital services.
