Early Education

Increase access to pre-kindergarten for 3- and 4- year olds by adding 44,000 new Pre-K seats by 2020.

Why is this goal important?

Statistically, children who attend high quality Pre-K programs perform better in their K-12 education, graduate at higher rates, and increase earning potential throughout their lives. For example, 3- and 4-year olds who participated in Pennsylvania’s Pre-K Counts programs outperformed their peers in both math and reading by the third grade.

What are we working on to reach this goal?

The Wolf Administration is fighting to increase funding for both Pre-K Counts and Head Start Supplemental Assistance — both early childhood education programs with proven success rates. To date, the Governor has proposed $180 million to expand access to young children across the commonwealth.
